Welcome Northampton School of Dance Families
Make yourself at home
The Pioneer Valley has for decades been home to a thriving arts scene. Northampton in particular is a hub of performance and visual art and Northampton School of Dance has been a key player in that community since it opened. Led by the indefatigable Jen Peterson for nearly a decade, hundreds if not thousands of families have benefited from the kind and creative energies of NSD and Jen’s staff, the offerings expanding each year beyond recreational dance to include pointe, acro, musical theater and competition dance, as the needs and interests of the community expanded.
This past year has been a series of losses great and small, and we are sad to count among them the closing of Northampton School of Dance. More than 200 dancers are losing not just a menu of classes to take, but a refuge and a home, and a change like that is no small thing to process.
Under consultation with Jen, we here at Ascendance Inner World Arts are working to soften the transition in so far as we are able. As a member of the Northampton are dance community, we hope you will consider visiting our studio and see for yourself if it isn’t a place that would be a good fit for your family.
As part of rolling out the welcome mat, we are waiving registration fees for all NSD families – no matter when you last took a class with Jen and her team. We are also inviting you to an information session with our founder and Director, Laurel Anne Boyd. It remains a challenge to consider meeting in large groups indoors, so we are carefully and optimistically scheduling an in person session at our studio location on Jan 3rd at 3:00 pm. Come meet Laurel, meet some of the staff, tour the space and see what we have to offer.
We invite you to tell us about your background and what you would be looking forward to. A button below will take you to a short form that will both put you in the loop for more information and also provide us with much needed information about how we could best serve our newest constituency.
If you have made up your mind and are ready to register, well, we are thrilled! There is a link for that as well where you can get yourself into our Family Portal. Class registration won’t open until Jan. 3rd and out of an abundance of caution surrounding the pandemic and potential travel over the holidays the first class for the Spring Season will be on Monday, Jan. 25. Creating your account in our portal will save you time in January, and also allow you to sign up for updates and further communication about the spring through our newsletter.
